Yes it was wet, getting to Canterbury by bus, so that meant a guided tour of Canterbury cathedral. The Cinque Port at Walmer, that’s “sink” apparently, was fascinating if only finding out that past wardens of the Cinque ports, including Winston Churchill and the Queen Mother, are nominated by the prime minister. Yes, the flag was at half mast as the current incumbent had just died, we are expecting Gavin Williamson or some other notable politician to get the job after what seems like some worthy past incumbents.
On the way enjoyed an altogether pleasant afternoon in Rochester, whilst members of English Heritage; the castle was interesting
