Dad was given little respite in later years by mum, but it seemed they needed each other. It’s a tragedy that they didn’t seem to present a happier pair after the trials of WWII had dealt them a poor hand. They both made the most of it and had fulfilling lives serving the community in their own ways, but sadly little enough together.
