12km from the Ukraine border, Przemysl was an important town during the days of the Austro-Hungarian empire. Apocryphally one of the descendents of the ruling Habsburg family was recently asked if he was going to the ‘Austria Hungary’ football match. He replied “I didn’t know we were playing anyone”
Kalwaria Paclawska, a Franciscan monastary, is 25km from the town
The local Ramblers club. The Polish for a hike is a “Rajd”. In late September they hold a commemorative event for Dr Mieczyslaw Orlowicz who wrote a book and promoted walking in the region, a bit like Wainwright maybe.
