Moonfleet Manor

A night at a luxury childrens activities hotel in Fleet Dorset. A noisy above the kitchen room (Bowring) luckily with rain lashing down after 6 to put the veritable dampeners on the following day around Portland Bill & Weymouth. Cathy at Birch House B&B, although a little way out, was excellent.

Not as relaxing as it could have been with everyone on edge waiting for news and dodging showers, but a return to a Rockfish chain fish restaurant was a good reminder of an earlier visit to Poole.

Finding “Five go gluten free” in WHSmiths was a highlight, as was an extended blowy walk from Abbotsbury on to the Hardy way ridge overlooking the dramatic Chesil Beach.

Keep going along west if you want to go fossil hunting. For the circular walk don’t go all the way to West Bexington if you want to avoid the trudge through the shingle as indeed the walk book suggested, but then who are we to follow such directions?

Home dodging more biblical showers with an eventful stop at the Wilton garden centre (an IKEA in the garden centre world) and a relax at home with some better news and continuing progress.
