Kestrel is 5 or so miles from Landovery, in a clutch of holiday-let farm buildings, secluded but reassuringly close to railway services for train spotters. A comforting Fish Pie is followed by an early evening walk, with kittens to play with and an invite to dogs, leads & people.
Indeed, blue sky is occasionally available in Wales, and this time we weren’t disappointed, with Trevor promising rain, we were rewarded by coastal, cycle, spa and mountain sunshine.
Cycle tour. Setting off after a rain shower, being advised the rain would arrive in earnest by 3pm for sure, we pedalled up Á over into the westerly valley. Pubs not opening until 12 caused some dismay, but a lunch stop in an overgrown, lottery funded childrens play area helped restore energy levels before the Neuadd Arms allowed us in for refreshment. The rain was clearly not going to arrive until much later, so after the somewhat disappointing flapjack cafe stop in Llandovery, the group had split into tough cross country pedal and leisurely main road return.
Coastal walk. Aberaeron to Newquay. Missed the free weekend bus service, and Bev met a kindred broken humerus.
Food. Looks like the group has gone all but vegetarian, apart from Peter’s almost traditional Fish Pie – low calory double cream, cheese, spinach, carrot and cheese followed by passion fruit curd ripple cream Pavlova; Noel’s Vegetable tagine with Eryl’s homegrown rhubarb and custard; Eryl’s Butternut Squash and green bean Thai curry and Jane’s veg lasagne and gluten free brioche bread and butter pudding. What do you say we go vegan next time?
