Returning to Church Stretton with 9 stalwarts in October 2025. Dave succumbed to a bug and missed out on a 15km stroll on the Long Mynd to Bridges for lunch.
We remembered the rule for arriving at the excellently appointed Brooklands accommodation was don’t get there first as you get to be the fire warden. Kudos to Irish.

Not the full Monty walk for all, missing out the start/finish in the Carding Mill Valley, but more than strenuous enough with moors, forest walks, and wildlife. An evenings entertainment of ’20 questions’ stretched brains to match the stretched muscles earlier in the day.

The history of Penkridge Hall was explained to us by the neighbourly tree fellers, no there was only one of them!?

Sunday saw a 12km (slightly?) less taxing walk along Lawley Ridge – renowned for it’s views of the Long Mynd, sadly not today though, passing a modern folly attached to the Hall, dedicated to the Knights Templar, but to get palnning permission it needed a bathroom of course
Kitty Split was effective, with everyone getting breakfasts and three evening meals for £23. Bargain. Wishing folks cheerio, we hope to catch up in the Mourne Mountains later in 2026
As usual we enjoyed Anne‘s stories, but also her shared sheep shots. You could find her on facebook or Insta if we knew how to use “Social” or her web site.
