Quarry Road Free Parks Tennis

FREE Tennis in Swindon. Book Here. Saturdays 10-11 at Quarry Road. This is the only Free Parks Tennis currently in Swindon.

Register with the LTA & Book in here. It helps us with an idea of who will be with us. We provide rackets (if needed) & balls.

Brought to you by your Facilitators Peter, Sam & Laura – but looking for more volunteers so we can get a rota of helpers to step in when others are away. Contact us at quarryfpt@gmail.com

Cancellations. The best we can do is ask you to mail quarryfpt@gmail.com where we will leave an OOO message – but if it’s raining or the courts are slippery or there is no facilitator, you can read that message to use the code.

Parking. You can park right outside the courts for 2 hours, so 10 until 12 is ok, but be careful if you move further up the hill past the playing fields. Beyond the “School” sign on the right, there are residents parking restrictions. They do start ticketing after 8am, so that’ll hardly be FREE tennis for you !

Where can I play & learn tennis?

Group Beginners Courses advertised at St Marks. Contact our head coach Craig: craig@nationaltennis.org.uk

“Intermediate?” Come along Sundays at St Marks 10-12 just to see how you get on with some social doubles tennis; the Swindon Tennis Club is happy to offer a handful of sessions as a taster before you join. Although we’d love you to join & play with us at St Marks we recognise this is a financial commitment, but there are several membership plans available, and other tennis clubs are out there and Delta Tennis offers pay & play.

Resources Links etc to follow

  • FPT at St Marks saw up to 12 players when it was running
  • How does this work elsewhere, what issues or learnings do others have?
  • We have no local advertising, but have added created a flyer on site
  • Attendance. We have access to clubspark as ‘quarrytennistas’ so we can see who has signed up for a session
  • Cancel (1). If there is no-one signed up we figure we will cancel the session. If early weather warnings/storms then the night before, otherwise 9am
  • Cancel (2). We have an email account with an OOO message on cancellation people can contact
  • We have a First Aid kit, but looking for ice packs too.
  • We have hoodies and look the part now
  • The Kit we have been given is distributed between the 3 of us, but we can always use Sam’s porch as a temporary pick-up and drop off point
  • 3 of us are in a rota and organise ourselves to make sure someone is there – is there any chance of getting others, we did see at first another volunteer was on the NTA books, but saw nothing of them
  • The NTA web page is out of date – contact details need updating
  • We’re happy to host our own facebook page
  • All 3 volunteers are Club members
  • Professional advertising & poster on site would be welcomed
  • We intend to leave the key code, obtained by OOO message, when not there – CL says there is no problem with this.
  • We have agreed with CL that we refresh balls as needed from his stock
  • We have no green dot balls, we have red balls for childrens drills, but so far only one child
  • Quarterly CPD, supported by local coaches, has been discussed with CL and agreed for us ‘non-coaches’
  • Peter has a “drill database” for fun games to play, but we’re relying on each other simply to get folks playing
  • We understood there was a small payment to support the initiative, but we ask that this is honoured
