- Recognition. We are formally part of Zp. Our last AGM with Tad was 2010, whilst we lost our last active old guard Ryszard Slusarenko in 2015.
- Finance. We continued to run the Puchar Andersa, at close to break even since 1999, with extraordinary spending to (a) re-silver our cups, (b) engraving on cups which had not been engraved for 20 years and (c) buying a tent for St John’s to use at the tournament. We spend annually to host www.zpks.co.uk and engrave winners. We have no source of funds beyond using the football tournament to generate funds. It has been possible to continue largely because we have a free facility we can use. If this were not available we would expect to be paying anything around £2000 to stage the event.
- Active sports. We lost table tennis in 2004, the lottery which targeted Polish associations around the country was deemed too much administrative effort, there was no Bal Sportowy after 1998.
- Active Members. Tad with Peter and help from Mariusz, then recently Krysztof have been running at Slough with good relations with the stowarzyszenie there. Wojciech Sapieja was always very keen to get involved, even with Tadek, and he is now a member of the Committee. WS clearly has many contacts in the UK
- Communication. PC has maintained www.zpks and now Wojciech is clearly very hands on with Facebook
Our Mission: to continue to recognise our links to those from WW2 and remind the Polish community of the debt they owe to the past and build on community and culture through sport.
Next Steps
- It would be a help if we had an oversight committee of established Poles. There is no reason this shouldn’t exist for at least 10-15 more years from the generation born in the UK in late 40s who would have experienced ZPKS at its’ strongest.
- In the short term, with the people we have, we can only run the Slough Puchar Andersa.
- We need to get more people involved to run north and south and finals for football. Really we need a midlands/north organiser, whilst slough is a south/london organiser.
- The Daventry event attracts a large number of teams and is a competitor as a national tournament
- With the south we have a free facility, but would need something around Derby
- We feel we would like to recognise all sporting competitions in the UK and see that mistrzostwa UK are involved with old boys, juniors, but if not possible we can simply keep and support puchar andersa
- We recognise that the financial support of the SPK will be a factor in how the competition continues, and for us to get that support we must show we are structured and well organised.
- The SIP Igrzska could be a means to promote sport in the UK, and not just with football. In the past we received a grant from the SPK to subsidise this. With the availability of easy but maybe not so cheap flights this could lead us in to restoring sport. If we had a siatkowka tournament the winners would have a prize of subsidised attendance. There are no SIP in 2025, these have moved to July 28 – August 2, 2026. I think in Gdynia
- Facebook is being used by WS, but maybe messages are too long
- We would love to get some funds for improved changinf facilities in Slough, but this would be £250k to do a good job. With the support of Slough we would not have been running Puchar Andersa over the last 25 years
- We have something like a super cup as we have the Daventry winners playing in this tournament.
- We want to curate all things Polish/Sport and think that this could be best in Slough and we might use funds to build display/cabinets etc
- We could link in with Polish Schools
- There are the scouts as well
- There are St Briavels & Fenton
- We have sponsors as follows
- Include POSK and ZP – become members of and promote
- Business Plan – what we want to deliver
- Buy equipment
- Pay and get include in Tydzien Polski Kalendarz buy a page tydzien.co.uk
- Dzien Dziecka w Laxton Hall
SWOT.
- Strengths. We are THE established tournament. Or this may be a curse.
- Weaknesses. We have lost Siatkowka and Tenis Stolowy amongst others. The ZPKS chairman is a non-native Polish speaker; We don’t have any people to help
- Opportunities. Igrzyska now in 2026. Now we have more money from upping the entry fee.
- Threats. Other sports competitions.
- Achieve CIC status – ella walsall
- eastmidlandspopolsku
We invite you as our guests to the tournament.
