Commemorating AD’s 50 celebration weekend in Rhyader.
10 diehards plus the celebrant scouser converged upon Rhyader for a biking/walking weekend. Hardy arrived first to warm up the Mid Wales Inn and chat up the girls at the darts evening. A 30 minute walk from base, he was soon joined by Foley,Webber & Daniels who verified the quality of the Sunshine ale. Brimacombe & Rinaldi were run off the road in the dark by Rawlinson & Cejer, who carried on to deposit the weekend comestibles at the midwales bunkhouse. The chain was complete when Trowell, Toomer & the birthday boy picked up the last 2 walkers, sadly only 400m before the pub.

Saturday was met by glorious weather with the plucky peddlers keen as mustard, at least until the first incline was reached. Breaking off in to ‘off-road’ and ‘on-road’ groups at the Elan valley visitor centre the groups tested their endurance, cycle-repair, first aid, swimming and yet more cycle repair skills before returning well and truly exhausted, ready for a walk (or bike for those who’d not had enough) back to the Inn for dinner plus apple crumble and the last bottle of red wine in the pub.
Of course there was also birthday cake, a cheese tower, breakfast Perry’s porkies, the bridge over the River Wye, and absent friends …
